Volunteering

You can volunteer anywhere!

Volunteering for your community is directly helping the oceans, it is work that can truly make a difference on a large scale. It is necessary to sustain life and make the community better as well. Volunteering to cleanup the community ensures that future generations will be left with a god community too!

More specifically, it is important to keep our beaches clean! This is the closest place to the ocean where sea turtles are, so it benefits our sea turtles! Beaches are fragile environments that sea turtles will breed at, so they need special attention to protect.

How to change:

...

Plastic ends up in the ocean from land too, the trash on land can be washed up by sewer systems or local rivers and eventually make their way to the ocean. So if you litter, it can end up harming a sea turtle far away in the future. Plastic debris injures and kills marine life, floating plastics in the oceans have been found to accumulate dangerous chemicals and transport them through ocean currents.

You can most likely go to your towns community center or website to see if there are local cleaups, or look online for beach organization cleaups.
If your interested in forming your own community cleanup, here are some possible ideas:

  • Trash and litter collection
  • Beach cleanups
  • River cleanups
  • Beautification projects

When planning these things always make sure with town officials it is allowed, if not, you could fight for it. However, always be prepared and fully plan the cleanup out, with supplies that are needed, a rain-date, location, whether or not transportation is provided. And let the people of your community know! Advertise it on social media or put up bio-degradable flyers.

Have fun and be safe!
