Turtles & Awareness

The Problems

A variety of problems concerning pollution and climate change have an affect on sea turtles and the health of the ocean.

POLLUTION IN WATER

Many factors like oil spills, urban runoff of chemicals and fertilizers all contribute to water pollution. An estimated 36% of all marine pollution from oil comes through drains and rivers from cities.

CLIMATE CHANGES

Belive it or not but the turtles can affect the climate. The sea turtles use both marine and terrestrial habitats during their life cycles, the affects of climate change are likely to have a devastating impact on these endangered species. A rise in the sea level will impact sea turtle nesting beaches.

MARINE LITTER

Thousands of tonnes of plastic sit unrecycled in landfills – it takes from 450 to 1,000 years to breakdown and decompose. The worst part of all this is that plastics break down into micro-plastics and end up in our oceans. This type of rubbish is known as marine litter.

PLASTIC IN THE OCEAN

Plastic bags are petroleum-based and do not biodegrade. Sea turtles and other marine creatures mistake plastics and other garbage as food (such as jellyfish) and ingest it. This mistake causes blockages within their digestive system and eventual death. And it can affect turtles in other ways.

Abstract

Get a Brief Summary

The world is changing everyday and more people are becoming indifferent to the problems that are occuring in the ocean. It's just the ocean after all. However, this site aims to educate the upcoming youth of the world. This site will gather resources together to help you!

Izear's Message: This is an awareness for pollution in the oceans that are not only harming the turtles but all marine life and Earth itself.

Nicole's Message: Please let's save marine life, they are very cute... Not only that, but since the world is mostly ocean, we should do our best to take care of it!

OCEANS ≠ TRASH

EFFECTS OF TRASH TO TURTLES

Oceans generate half of the oxygen we breathe and, at any given moment, they contain more than 97% of the world's water. Oceans provide at least a sixth of the animal protein people eat. Living oceans absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and reduce climate change impacts.
